Description
Discover the ancient art of Sashiko. Join this friendly class for peaceful and productive ‘Zen-stitching' sessions and learn a new skill that you can carry forward into other projects.
If you are aged 19 and over and do not have Maths at level 2 or equivalent, you can access free numeracy courses through Multiply to build your confidence with numbers and learn a new skill in our professional studios.
If you have already attended a Multiply Sashiko course, you cannot enrol onto this course – it is a repeat.
Enjoy creating Sashiko a traditional Japanese hand-stitching technique suitable for all abilities which aims to decorate, strengthen, and repair existing fabrics. We will use indigo dyed cloth to replicate that of historical Japan and create samplers of the various patterns which can be used for a further project. We will also look at Boro which celebrates our repaired clothing with visible and sometimes colourful mending.
What will I learn on this course?
Learners will:
1. Use division to design grid systems correctly onto fabric
