Description

If you are aged 19 and over and do not have Maths at level 2 or equivalent , you can access free numeracy courses through Multiply to build your confidence with numbers whilst learning a new skill in our professional studios.

Join us in our fully equipped dressmaking studio for a 2-session workshop and learn how to create fabric storage buckets to help organise your sewing supplies or give as gifts. With the guidance of our professional tutor, you will make a paper pattern, using it to cut the bucket from fabric and then sew it up using a sewing machine. Tuition and guidance will be given as needed. You will get a chance to build your confidence in using some of those long-forgotten maths skills, sewing on a machine and you will leave with your fabric bucket at the end of the sessions.
  

What will I learn on this course?
1) Use Pi and circle theory to accurately draw their pattern 2) Learn how to measure correctly and accurately 3) Use division to transfer those measurements correctly onto paper You will also - sew circular gussets into rectangular pieces of fabric - Use fuse-able interfacing for stiffer finish - Learn some tricks of the trade for a more professional finish - Use addition to add the correct seam allowances where required - Cut out their bucket from supplied fabrics, using addition to work out fabric needs - Understand Lining with ‘turning hole’ technique for great finished results

Is this course suitable for me?
No experience necessary. Your tutor will guide you step by step through the process of designing your bucket, cutting your pattern and then making the bag. Machine instruction will be given where required All tools and resources are provided for learner use

Attendance Policy
In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
Students will be encouraged to have a browse on the internet for designs jersey tops. They may choose to apply those new ideas to their designs, or to try and make another in the future with those ideas.
