Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to investigate the possibility of a new art-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress

This exciting BTEC vocational course introduces you to a variety of art disciplines such as drawing and painting (visual recording), sculpture and three-dimensional working whilst exploring materials such as plastic, metal and textiles - over 2 days at our Rochester centre - Thursday & Friday.
You will need to be available to attend BOTH Thursday & Friday.

You will be based in one of our inspirational art studios, working on a range of projects to build your portfolio and to learn new creative art skills.

This qualification gives learners the opportunity to develop their technical art and design skills through a process of studio practice, self-evaluation, and quality review. In addition to the sector-specific content available in this qualification, the requirements mean that learners develop the transferable skills needed to progress to further education and ultimately higher education and employment.

This qualification will also support learners towards becoming more confident and autonomous learners within their art practice, taking responsibility for the direction and content of their work.

What will I learn on this course?
Learners will: - Submit 2 units which meet the 5 learning objectives as set out by the BTEC level 2 - Follow MAEs priorities of reduce, reuse recycle to support the Medway Council’s climate change agenda, You will cover the following units: Assessment objectives for assessment units - Exploring and developing Art and Design Skills. - Skills Development. - Art and Design Project. Assessment unit 1 1. Explore investigation skills for art and design. 2. Explore communication skills for art and design. 3. Explore practical art and design skills. 4. Explore development processes for art and design. 5. Explore productive approaches to working in art and design. Assessment unit 2 1. Carry out investigation for an art and design project. 2. Use communication skills for an art and design project. 3. Use practical skills for an art and design project. 4. Carry out development of an art and design project. 5. Use productive approaches to working for an art and design project.

Is this course suitable for me?
This course is only for learners aged 19+ Before you enrol, you must book and complete an initial assessment with our information, advice and guidance team. Suitable for learners who wish to build a portfolio or to formalise their skills in preparation for further study or employment.

How will I be assessed?
GRADING The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Art and Design Skills is graded P to D. Each learning and teaching module defines the range of content that learners will cover. The assessment evidence produced is presented and assessed against assessment units. Assessment units are each assessed against five criteria, which are graded on a scale of Distinction, Merit, Pass and Unclassified To be awarded a qualification, learners must achieve a minimum of Pass in all assessment criteria in each assessment unit. You will be assessed through a range of unit assignments which will go toward your overall grade at the end of the course.

Will there be additional costs?
You will need various resources depending on your final projects. The course fee does include a starter pack of basic equipment which you can build on. There may be trips to galleries/ exhibitions- your tutor will advise you.

What could I go on to do after this course?
Learners may progress to further learning at Level 3, for example the Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma in Art and Design Practice or a 540- GLH Diploma in Art and Design alongside another diploma in a complementary sector.

Attendance Policy
Multiple sessions- In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 85%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed.
